it's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

hey everyone,
this is my first entry in my blog and it's so exciting! So I want to explain a few things about this study abroad program to start off. First, I named my blog "My Indian Semester" as opposed to "My Semester in India" because I want to convey to you what sort of experience this will be. I will not simply be studying in India but I will be immersing myself in its culture thoroughly. I will, for a few months at least, be as Indian as I can be. Another thing that I want to put out there is that I'm more upset and scared than I am excited right now. Saying goodbye to my friends today, especially at the airport, was really hard. Some I may never seen again, and some I will certainly see again but already miss only hours after leaving campus. But more than that I'm scared. I have almost no idea what to expect, except that I will be jerked out of my comfort zone very quickly, and that nothing will be easy at first. Walking away from my friends in the airport all I was thinking was how I wanted to go back and how happy I would be if I did. I'm happy at Middlebury; me studying abroad is less about escaping Middlebury as it is about experiencing something different. And I know that to do something different always means leaving my comfort zone. This time, though, will be much more challenging then before. Parts of my life that I took for granted before I will now have to struggle with, mainly concern clean and efficient infrastructure. I realize this is all part of the challenge, but it certainly makes me very apprehensive. I don't doubt that this apprehension will fade, but right now, I'm still quite nervous. Wish me the best of luck.

I am somewhat excited though, did I mention that? I'm going to freakin India, come on.

btw, send me your mailing addresses so that I can send postcards.

Love,
Mimi
